Come in from the Cold

Christmas in July

The cold weather is well and truly upon us with the cold snap that seems to be gripping South East Queensland or is it just the feeling I have of not being able to thaw out? What ever the correct answer is the month of July teamed with the cold weather is a perfect reason to celebrate Christmas earlier especially if you are a card maker!!! Michelle has planned some extraordinary cards to kick start your Christmas card making production line...secret Santas and Christmas nibblies will add to the festivities. Check out the timetable for dates and times for Classy Cards.

July is also a fairly unique month having five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays which means Moonlighting appears three times in July...to start the month we are offering Moonlighting special.... Moonlighting on Friday July 1 is pay for one and bring a friend!! 

A chance to catch up with friends and be creative...sounds like fun to me!! For the Moonsketch that Friday you will need 1x 4x6 Horizontal and 3x 4x4 Squares.

We are also holding a special event on the last Saturday in July...a once only 3 hour class 'Layer Upon Layer' Think smooch pigment inkpads, sponge applicators, clear embossing powder teamed with beautiful papers and embellishments. This is a class for only the first 8 lucky people booked in, a kit class that is designed to showcase the art of layering inked and stamped images into a stunning double page layout. Be quick to avoid disappointment!! 

July Classes 

Sketched! - 7 photos are needed this month... 1 4x6 landscape, 1 4x6 portrait, 1 3x4 landscape and 4 3x4 portrait photographs. Two Saturday classes feature in July to create extra spaces!

Trend Studio - Spritz yourself Melissa challenges herself every month and July is no exception. This time she takes on doilies, coffee filters and is going to wave some smooch spritz for a little touch of magic!

Classy Cards - Christmas in July it's all about Christmas and the celebrations associated with our favourite time of year. Apart from creating beautiful cards using ???(you'll have to wait and see) Get into the fun with Michelle and participate in Secret Santas, enjoy Christmas nibblies and by all means feel free to dress up in your Christmas finery!!

Product Pick -  This months kit features Echo Parks gorgeous range 'For the Record' in red, green, black and newsprint teamed with chipboard alphas,ribbon, flowers and loads more embellishments. You will be bowled over with choice this month with 5 different layouts.

Inspiration 101 - This time around we will be introducing an 8.5x11 horizontal refill into our albums and a patchwork/mosaic style layout. For those interested in fine tuning their hand sewing or expanding their stitch repertoire Melissa will have some great advice and handouts to boost your confidence.

 Take 2 -Using the Glitz 'Love Games' papers for July's kit in shades of cream, black, khaki and gold it will be interesting to see Kerryn's interpretation of  such a versatile range. Teeny Alphas and diamante buckles are just a tease as to the other treasures in this kit.

Titles  

Each month we will be listing titles  to help you with your pages.You know Lyndal wants you to think outside the box. Movie world will never do!!! See our white board in the workshop area and feel free to add to the list. Print them out and start a collection, you never know when Title Block will strike!!! Last month we were collecting travel themed Titles and here are some that we came up with.

June Timetable is Out.

After celebrating our sixth Birthday we've settled back into another creative week. Thank you to everybody who came and saw us and also shared in the celebration.

 

This week we will be coming up with lots of amazing ideas   to keep you scrapping during the winter months. Don't forget Moonlighting this Friday night,so  gather your gal pals and join us for a fun night with Amanda's Moonsketch. This week will be a double layout using 6 vertical 4x6 photos. Some will be slightly cropped. Can't wait to use this one myself.

 

June Classes 

Copy Cat - Yet to be decided as I've just returned. I'll let you all know soon.

Sketched! - Six photos this month with focus on  a 6x8 Vertical , 2 4x6 horizontals, 2 3x4 vertical and 1 4x3 horizontal

Trend Studio - Trinket and Vintage pins.With all the amazing pins we have in the store, come and try new ideas for dressing them up. No longer just tucked into some ribbon, this class will get you to see the endless possibilities to this versatile embellishment.

Classy Cards -Michelle is unfortunately snowed under at the hospital and won't be doing a class this month. I know our card makers will be sad but she  will be back with bells on in July. 

Product Pick -  has a vintage feel with Crate paper's portrait collection, teamed with a satin pleated trim and muslin rosettes. If you love tickets and journalling cards, its a kit for you.

Inspiration 101 - This month we are taking the hybrid scrapbooking approach in this month's class. We finally get to use the divided page protectors in our albums and they will be filled with photo's and journaling cards in a less minimal style with a little touch of scrapbooking!!! Bring: kit, album, photo's and divided page protectors. Glimmermists / inks and stencils / masks will also feature.

 Take 2 -It's the Little Things by Fancy Pants features cream, black, coral and pink and who doesn't love pearl bling?? 

Scrappers Special

Watch this space for continued specials. starting in June all stock in our Christmas bays will be discounted by 30%. That includes all embellishments and papers!!! For all card makers its a great time to get an  early start on your Christmas cards.

We have a few last minute vacancies in Classes this week. Take 2 at 9.30am on Saturday and Trend Studio at 1.30pm . Monday has two vacancies in Copy Cat with a beautiful girly layout using Thersea Collins papers in Black, white and Pink and bling too!!

May Timetable is Out

You can almost smell the chocolate in the air with Easter literally just around the corner…the Easter Bunny even made a surprise visit to Sketched this morning…nothing like chocolate to help get the creative juices flowing!!

 May is our big birthday month, it’s hard to believe that we are celebrating our 6^th birthday. What’s good to know is that we at Scrapbooks etc are still as passionate about scrapbooking as the day we first opened our doors, we are still like kids at Christmas when new stock arrives in the store and almost trip over each other to use the new products first…nothing like the smell of paper as it’s first unpacked mmm!!!! We have lots of things planned for our Birthday Celebrations including free crops on Thursday May 12 and Friday May 13 so come along and join us.

Trend Studio- ‘Eclectic and Quick’ It’s all about mastering the art of fast layouts with a creative mix of embellishments. How fast can Melissa get the mismatched to come together on your next page to create a layout that works?

Classy Cards- Michelle has snaffled the ‘Garden Party’ range from Imaginisce to use this month. Pinks, blues and teals form a winning colour combination

Sketched!- All portrait photos for May, 8 to be exact!! 2 4x6, 3 ½ size and 3 ¼ size photos are required

Product Pick- To travel or not to travel?…that is the question! The basis of this month’s kit is the ‘Destinations’ range from Simple Stories. The papers are teamed with a mask, alphabet stickers, frame and metal embellishments…will the girls use the kit for travel inspired layouts or will they think outside the square?

Inspiration 101- We’re taking a deep breath and slowing down this month, allowing more time to finalise all of the finer details and catch up on anything you may have missed. This is the perfect time for Melissa to help you with all the embellishing or have her help you plan your photos for the coming months. For the girls who have completed their homework, there will be new techniques and simple layout ideas to fill any gaps in your layout.

Fancypants- Two new ranges ‘To the Moon’ and ‘It’s the Little Things’ which Amanda has used for the front display…very cute and playful!

My Minds Eye- Yes, we saved the best till last…can not get enough of this company!!! The ‘Tickled Pink’ and ‘True Blue’ range are gorgeous but the ‘Stella Rose’ range has to be seen to be believed!!!!!!

Before we launch into all that April has to offer, yes, including Lyndal’s favourite time of year…mmmm…chocolate….we want to make mention of our awesome event happening this coming weekend. Our Create-A-Weekend is on this Friday night and Saturday (the 25^th and 26^th) we have a few vacancies due to cancellations but it’s not too late to join us. We will inspire you, entertain you, challenge you and feed you!! So grab a couple of girlfriends…or make new ones here…and come along. Call the store to secure your place!! Melissa has some wonderful new products for you to play with as well as some amazing examples of how she has used them.

What 's on in March

The highlight of our March timetable is the fact that our ‘Create-A-Weekend’ extravaganza is back on!!!! Woo Hoo!!! We are very excited and looking forward to having you attend this event with us…the formula is the same as in you get 20 hours of uninterrupted (mum…I’m hungry….mum….I’m bored) scrapbooking time with all meals included, this weekend is all about creativity, sharing ideas and fun….the scrapbooking challenges are always well received and while not compulsory they are a great way to boost your imagination and hey, the prizes are pretty awesome too!! Team this with a survival kit of the essentials (read lollies!!) to keep you going over the two days and an awesome scrapbooking goody bag makes for a fun weekend with a capital F!!

If you’re a beginner or an intermediate scrapbooker then please keep an eye out on the timetable for ‘Copy Cat’ and ‘Product Pick’. Both of these classes are kit classes, so very easy to follow in order to create your masterpiece.

“What do black tulle, bling and decorative felt border have in common?” (photo of the black and white kit). They were all used in three very different ways in the February Product Pick class. Amanda (navy), Susan (green) and Melissa (green, orange and blue) all created stunning pages.

 If you are new to the world of scrapbooking both our beginners classes ‘Scrapbook Basics’ and ‘The Next Step’ are on the March timetable…. Don’t forget our ‘Moonlighting’ crops held every second Friday night. It makes for a night out amongst other creative types, lots of laughter and with staff on hand to help with ideas. The night always features a sketch challenge designed by creative team member Amanda. Amanda designs the layout, which can be a single or double page, and creates a sample page which you can either copy or use as a base to create your own design. Giveaways and supper provided too!

Copy Cat- Susan is taking Copy Cat to the next level by using the 7Gypsies ‘Lille’ range in a 6x6 paper pad format for something new and exciting!

Product Pick- Mmmmmm BasicGrey’s ‘Curio’ range is the star in Product Pick this month…need we say more??? Take 2- March’s kit is made up of papers from BasicGrey’s ‘Basics’ range teamed with papers from ‘Graphic 45’, throw into the mix twill ribbon, alpha stickers, bling and chipboard embellishments and you have a kit loaded with potential!

Classy Cards- Springtime comes early this month with the colours Michelle has picked for her class…think pale green, pink and pastel blue

Sketched!- Lyndal uses 5 3x4 inch photos in this month’s class, all are portrait photos

Trend Studio- March signals the facelift for the humble journalling card and die cuts. No longer will one or two be used on a layout, lots of inspiring techniques to learn.

Inspiration 101 -Melissa’s only instructions so far for this inspiring class are masses of photos…any size!!

Total Devastation? A Glimmer Of Hope?

Our hearts go out to the many thousands affected by the floods in Queensland particularly SEQ. The footage has been devastating to witness and I know I have been brought to tears many times, not only by the hardships suffered but to see the way we as Aussies have pulled together to help complete strangers. The kindness and compassion shown has made me even prouder to be an Australian and as a fellow volunteer stated “this work is good for the soul”. I couldn’t have summed it up any better myself, my only hope is that those affected by the floods won’t be forgotten and we continue to help in whatever way we can.

February Classes

Copy Cat -  Susan is celebrating Christmas just a wee bit late this month using rich coloured Christmas papers from Bo Bunny’s ‘Noel’ range.

Sketched! - This month’s Sketched! features only photos that are landscape in orientation 1 4x8, 2 4x6 and 1 3x4 for a total of four photographs.

Trend Studio - February’s theme is ‘tapes and trims’. Trimmed to perfection with tapes and gorgeous trims. Bring your paints or inks for a stunning technique using masking tape.

Classy Cards – February is the month of love. Michelle has the feeling covered with love themed cards (but have been assured can be constructed with Birthdays in mind too!!!) using the very cute papers from two of the latest Fancypants ranges. Colours are brown, deep red, charcoal and blue predominantly.

Product Pick – Bold. No room for subtlety in this month’s Product Pick as the kit is made up almost entirely of a black and white colour scheme right down to the very cute embellishments!!

Take 2 - Kerryn gets to experiment with BasicGrey’s new ‘Hopscotch’ range - lucky girl!! Inspiration 101 - January has seen this brand new class off and racing but it’s not too late to join in the fun creating this very unique themed album. An extra class has been added to the timetable to assist with spaces.

New To the Shelves

With CHA just around the corner we are hanging out to see all the new releases from our favourite companies but to tide us over in the meantime we have recently unpacked the three new BasicGrey ranges.

Hopscotch - a very cute, playful range featuring mint green, salmon pink and pale blue 

Curio - Lyndal died and went to Nana’s upholstery heaven with the release of this range. Her personal favourite! Bold floral prints with an old world charm. Love it!!!

Marjolaine - Made up of blue and green tones, florals and leaves. Melissa raided this range as soon as it hit the store. Be sure to check out her stunning page up on display!

Don’t forget the massive range of $1 papers. New designs out every day as well as the sale table jam packed with specials!!

Merry Christmas!!!!

We’re sure that by now the majority of you would have completed all your Christmas shopping, have all presents wrapped and stacked neatly under the tree, your handmade cards completed and posted and your plum puddings made.  So all that you need to do is sit back under the mistletoe sipping a glass of wine, maybe scrapbooking a page or two…..yeah right!  They don’t call it the silly season for nothing!!! Christmas is all about family and friends so lucky they make all the extra craziness worthwhile.

January Classes

With the school holidays already upon us we have the kids well and truly looked after with 3 of our children’s classes featured on the January timetable. One is aimed at the teens or those kids with a little more experience, a general kids class and an ‘off the page’ class ‘Box Of Treasures’ in which the kids get to decorate a video tape sized box in which to keep their precious things. A sample can be viewed in-store. It’s very cute!!

We have also scheduled a Scrapbook Basics and Next Step class on in January…so if you’ve always wanted to start scrapbooking and never had the time due to work and other commitments now’s your chance.

Please note that Classy Cards is still featured on a Saturday morning but the night class has changed to a Tuesday night for this timetable as a more convenient option for you. This month also sees an additional Sketched! class has been added to cope with demand.  Be sure to book in and see what the team has created.

Between Christmas and New Year we are open reduced hours of 10am-2pm and are offering free crop time during this period.  Come join us and escape the bedlam at home.  Well, for a little while at least.

Trend Studio - Last month was mini prints but this month it’s all about the impact of enlargements. Find that perfect shot and print it 5x7” or bigger!

Take 2 - This kit is seriously cute!!! Kerryn gets to play with the Fancypants Love Birds range in brown, pink and golden yellow.

Classy Cards - Michelle has picked out stunning glitter papers from Bo Bunny’s ‘Jazmyne’ range to use this month in pale green, olive green and purple.

Sketched! - 3 Portrait 3x4” (1/2 size) and 3 Landscape 3x4” (1/2 size) for a total of 6 photos.

Product Pick - Beautiful tones of brown, denim blue, sage green and burgundy are featured in Fancypants ‘Hot Chocolate’ range which is the basis for this months kit

New Class Launch

With 2011 fast approaching, why not start the New Year by giving yourself some well-deserved creative time. Gather a group of friends (or make new ones in the process) and invest some quality time and join us at Scrapbooks etc for the launch of this year-long project. This will be a monthly class that will challenge and push you beyond your usual style, towards a truly original album using a mixed media approach. Be completely guided as each month brings new techniques and multiple but unique layers to the album and a place to add all of your precious memories. We would love to fill our workroom with 24 committed people to share our vision. Register your interest and nominate a preferred day for this exciting new class…. INSPIRATION 101!!

It's that time of year again when the jolly fat man will be paying a visit...hopefully laden with loads of presents...providing you've been good!! Lucky for us Santa has already flown by the store and left a truck load of scrapbooking gifts under our uniquely decorated Christmas tree...spend $25 or more in one transaction and you can choose to pick one of our beautiful hand decorated tags off the tree...each tag contains a gift of either scrapbook supplies, free classes and crops, discount coupons or gift vouchers.
 
Keep in mind if your family are stuck for gift ideas for you we have gift vouchers available in any denomination...great idea to use for class payments or to stock up on all the latest scrapbook supplies.
 
A massive congratulations to Kerryn Leworthy who has just been announced as a Scrapbooking Memories Master for 2010. Kerryn, we are so proud of you and the fact that your talent has been formally recognised! Woo Hoo!!! Kerryn now joins Lynette and Lyndal who have both been Masters in previous years!

Create-A-Weekend

Held over the weekend of Friday October 22^nd and Saturday October 23^rd our bi-annual Create-A-Weekend was a resounding success!!! A huge thank you to all who attended and helped make the weekend a lot of fun.  We launched heaps of new challenges, demos, make and takes and our personal favourite - the photo booth!!!  Ladies, you are lucky Lyndal wasn’t around the photo-hog that she is! Though not compulsory, it’s always fun to see the layouts entered for our competitions and we really admire all the hard work and creativity that goes into completing the entries!! Our December timetable features Moonlighting every fortnight as it always does however, we have earmarked Friday 17^th to be our Moonlighting Christmas party!  Come along and join us. We have also recently started to introduce a Sketched! competition into our Moonlighting nights. Creative team member, Amanda Hartmann, designs each sketch and it’s a fun added bonus to the night. This Friday’s (Nov 19^th) sketch features 7 ¼ size photos presented on a single page.

Please note due to Christmas we have altered trading hours, we are closed all Public Holidays with reduced trading hours between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

November Timetable is Out!!!

The new November timetable is out and the classes are jam packed with the new ranges that have arrived on our doorstep recently!

November Classes
